27th + 28th November 2021, 11 am - 4 pm Workshop Language: German Fee: free of charge
Guiding themes of the workshop: Upheavals / shifts / new formations / destruction / rock stratification. The mineral environment is a main ingredient of our everyday surroundings, even in metropolitan urban structures. However, it is usually underestimated -if not going unnoticed- as people ignore its strong value in formation, texture, colour, and versatility. The motive of this workshop is to approach the earth-historical formation processes, in relation to the short period and within the limited means of human existence. We will be exposing stratifications and creating other connections; splitting a stone into numerous pieces, working on them, reassembling them in another compound, and eventually creating a collective sculptural volume.
MARIE STRAUSS lives and works in Berlin. BIOGRAPHY: Studied fine arts at the University of Arts Berlin under Lothar Baumgarten. Numerous grants and awards include: DAAD postgraduate scholarship for Mexico City, Secretaria de Relaciones exteriores research grant (SRE) México, Edith Maryon Foundation project scholarship, Sculpture Space NY working visit. Exhibition Funding Goethe Institut Mexico, Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations, Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe. Work stays in Larvik / Norway, Mexico City, Ciudad Juarez, Tijuana, Utica / NY, Sète. Exhibitions in Berlin, Cologne, Mexico City, Tijuana, Puebla, Utica NY.

Sam 27 + Son 28 Nov. 2021, 11 - 16 Uhr Arbeitssprache: Deutsch Keine Teilnahmegebühr

Mission Tree - Zenship I & II two Workshops by Gaston Hermida & Andreas Greiner & Ova Almendra
Mission Tree - Zenship I lead by Gaston Hermida & Ova Almendra
16th October 2021, Sat 12 - 6 pm 17th October 2021, Sun 12 - 6 pm Workshop Language: English
In this two tiered workshop, the first weekend is spared for the experimental architect Gaston Hermida, who will lead us to collaboratively design and build a collective tree nursery made of mobile seedling carriers. These mobile seed carries will be the land where the collected seeds will find home in the following week. Together with the Hermida, a joint project has now been created with Andreas Greiner for the TOPIA workshop series, which follows the genesis of urban trees from seed to seedling to anchoring in a fixed location. These individually developed planting containers will provide the seedlings with shelter and nourishment during the winter in the courtyard of HAUNT.
This workshop will act as the base/ land for the “Mission Tree - Zenship II” workshop that will be held on 23-24 October 2021. Being independent from each other, one can attend one or both of them.
OVA ALMENDRA was born in 1991 in the city of Neuquén, Argentina. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Architecture and Urban Design from the National University of La Plata and a Specialization Program in Technology and Architecture from the Torcuato Di Tella University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Ova has been working as an assistant professor for the Faculty of Architecture of the UNLP and also as an independent researcher addressing issues related to human-animal coexistence embedded in design issues.
GASTON HERMIDA is an experimental architect going through landscapes on different scales. Originally from Argentina, he has been developing different approaches to nature cultures, exploring new narratives. He has been involved in landscape urbanism projects, with a strong interest in how new behaviours are developed through urban design around the world. He studied Architecture at the Torcuato Di Tella University of Buenos Aires, Argentina and currently working in Berlin.

Mission Tree - Zenship II lead by Andreas Greiner & Ova Almendra
23rd October 2021, Sat 12 - 6 pm 24th October 2021, Sun 12 - 6 pm Workshop Language: English
As an artist whose work revolves around the biological specifics of living beings and their interactions, the idea and act of planting trees currently play a key role in Andreas Greiner’s work. In this workshop, the focus will be on the nomadic aspects of “growing trees.” The collective collection of seeds of various urban tree species will be followed by the planting to the collective tree nursery made previous week with GASTON HERMIDA. These individually developed planting containers will provide the saplings with shelter and nourishment during the winter in the courtyard of HAUNT, in order to then begin their journey to an as yet open final destination in the coming year.
ANDREAS GREINER lives and works in Berlin. After studying medicine, anatomy and sculpture he focuses on time-based and sculptural artworks. His creative aim is to push the boundaries of classical parameters in sculpture. The content of his work focuses on the anthropogenic influence on nature’s evolution and form. Similar to setups for scientific experiments, his works examine the human impact on the biological and atmospheric processes of our planet. Lately Greiner has exhibited his work at the Mönchehaus Museum Goslar as the 34th recipient of the Kaiserring emerging artist award and will participate in the Yokohama Triennale 2020. He is part of the artist collectives A/A and Das Numen.

Adaptation Workshop lead by Aletta de Jong
A two-hour walk from 10.00 to 12.00, starting at Haunt
During the walk, we shall look at and identify lichens, plants and trees, especially species adapting to unintended human-made ecosystems: trees growing on the facades of buildings, lichen growing in places where dogs urinate, and pioneer plants on building sites.
Back at the Haunt grounds we’ll analyze the collected photo’s, ground samples and identify the collected plants. What is the influence of the original landscape of this part of Berlin, and what is the influence of humans? Can we discover new adaptations of plants to conditions created by humans?
No prior experience is required.
Max. 10 people.
